Lorena Álvarez & Alejandro Palacios is an instrumental improvised music duo based in Santiago, Chile, formed by Lorena Álvarez on keyboards and Alejandro Palacios on trumpet, electric guitar, vocals and effects.
They started playing together in 2022, brought together by an artistic residency of improvised music called Nieve & Smog, in Santiago. This residency aims to convene musicians who have never previously played together and to maintain gender parity in their calls.
After working together for a month in the residency, in April 2022 they performed their first public concert. A week after that concert, they recorded an album titled Paisajes para Torcer al Reloj, which was released on June 16, 2023 by Not Not Fun Records.

Although each concert they have given has been new and different, this album is a good representation of their imagery and improvisational techniques. The result is an ambient work with touches of jazz in the style of Terry Riley and Don Cherry.
In the words of writer and poet José Badía: "As if gently scratching the border between sleep and wakefulness, Paisajes Para Torcer al Reloj is undoubtedly an album that bends time. With subtle, repetitive Rhodes keyboards that function as both percussion and melody, along with enveloping trumpet breezes, delicate drones and ethereal tape loops, Lorena Álvarez and Alejandro Palacio manage to create primitive, atmospheric soundscapes that invite daydreaming. A steady tapping dissolves as it touches the surface of a soft clock and knocks on a floating door that takes us to what Jon Hassell called the Fourth World."

Since their work at the artistic residency, Lorena Álvarez and Alejandro Palacios have continued to perform concerts, constantly experimenting with the change of instrumentation and timbre. However, they maintain their landscape atmosphere and their interest in exploring new places in every improvisation, which allows them to offer a new and different show each time.
Currently they are preparing for their first European tour, which starts on September 15th, and includes gigs in Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Brussels and Amsterdam.

Personnel
Lorena Álvarez is a Chilean keyboardist, session musician, DJ and producer. Trained in classical music and jazz, she has released tracks and remixes focused on electronic dance music under the name Lorelei, and has performed extensively as a DJ at underground parties and festivals in Chile. He is currently working on his next dance music album and producing with his band "Cuerpo Docente" his next album.
Alejandro Palacios is a Chilean musician and visual artist. He has released the albums Atifambersapel, Black Ring Tunes, Kokoi, Cómo cuidar de un pato, Equis I Griega Zeta and Los Gatos No Fuman. He is also known for his active collaboration in a wide range of musical and artistic projects.
